Gut Lights
4th Of July Poem That Shows The Light
Lying in darkness
Waiting for the light
I sit in a box
Not knowing my fate
But I wait and wait
Eager for something more
Than a cardboard box
—
Surrounded by all my brothers
And sisters alike
Though we are all different on the inside
We laugh and enjoy our time
For it is short
Just like the light
—
We have been brought
From the dark
And lined up
All in a row
They speak of fire
And ways of letting us go
I have some hope
Until they begin the show
—
It starts late at night
I hear their screams
As they fly oh so high
And paint the sky
The colors of my brothers
Screech, bang, and wail
Crackling as they die
More and more as they go down the line
All of them flying
None of them surviving
—
Their guts giving light
Only for a moment
Until all hope is gone
My time soon comes
I hope it does not hurt
To be burned alive
I’m not quite sure
I’ve only lived a short time
—
I had one purpose
To give them a show
By spewing my guts
And showing my colors
—
I had hope for something more
But they used me once
Until we were broken and unsure
We showed them our guts
They cheer at our deaths
Not knowing
Not caring
We bleed the same
—
The show goes on
Making us a form of entertainment
We cannot enjoy
Our lives were lost
We were only their toys
—
Now we know they never wanted us
For more than a moment
That moment will be served
My brothers burn
My sisters exploed
We all fade with the smoke

A tough but beautiful read, beautiful ❤️🩹❤️
