Skinned Bullet
Poems From The Prompt Part 5
A Picture Prompt from Alicia.
Hope you all enjoy.
Ugh, I hate my job
I wish that I could be with my love
Three more hours to go
Can’t wait to leave and feel complete
With my other half
He loves me more
Than just for my skin and bone
—
Another hour goes by
A text from my love
“Meet me here, I have wonderful things to show you”
The last two hours go by in a flash
I run out the door
Saying farewell to all my work friends
My love has something wonderful to show me
—
I click on the link
That takes me to maps
The place he is at
Is only 15 minutes out
I pull out of the lot
Driving out of town
To a place I’ve never been
But a place full of beauty
To the brim
—
Atop a small hill
Sits an old wooden Shack
With a lush green wood behind
And a crystal lake full of shimmering fish
My love’s car sits in front of the creaking house
He must be inside
I rush for the door
Overflowing with joy
I fling it open and see a man
—
He lies upon the floor
Coughing out all his blood
It is my love
“What happened!”
I cry
Falling on all fours
I crawl to him
Trying to stem the flow of blood
But it flows from more than one place
—
His leg is gone
But is still in the room
In another man’s hands
He places it aside
Seeming not to want to dirty himself
With the filthy crime
He loves to commit
My husband’s leg is missing pieces
Clean slices
Taken out of it like a piece of steak
Being piled on a plate
—
The man invites me to sit
And partake in this unholy thing
“Run!” my husband cries
“He has a gun!”
“He won’t let you leave alive”
—
I crash through the door
Running towards my car
The man is close behind
I thought I had enough time
I dive behind my car
Crawling, I opened the door
Crying, I start the car
But the man is there
Holding the gun
—
The shot rings
Carving through my windshield
And siphoning the air I have
By driving through my chest
As a begin to breathe my last
The man drags me back
Into the old wooden Shack
Never dirtying himself
With the blood of his meals
My love sobs beside me
Saying he’s sorry
He never wanted someone else
To taste his flesh
While he breathes his last
—
I lay beside
My dead love
While a man slices our flesh
Like a cow or even a fish
—
My last breath
Was caused by an unholy thing
A thing so corrupt
The man does all he can
To hide his sin
